Why this matters

French cleat walls are easy to like and awkward to lay out. The wall height rarely divides neatly by the spacing you had in mind, and that usually leaves builders hand-tuning each row after the first couple of cuts.

This planner works backward from your preferred gap, finds the nearest even row layout that fits, and shows the repeated stock cuts you will keep making across the whole wall.

Assumption: these are full-width wall cleat rows. If you are leaving out windows, cabinets, or a bench splash zone, use the finished usable height and width instead of the full wall size.

Useful for

  • Garage and shop walls where you want repeatable storage rows before ripping plywood
  • Tool-board systems that need clean top-to-bottom spacing instead of improvised row gaps
  • Planning how many full stock pieces and repeated short filler cuts a cleat wall will need
